Political Section
The Political Section coordinates political contacts between Swiss authorities and their counterparts in the People's Republic of China, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), and Mongolia.
The Section monitors and analyses foreign and domestic political developments in China, the DPRK and Mongolia, and reports to the Swiss authorities to inform decision-making regarding Switzerland’s bilateral relations with these countries . It also conveys relevant information from the Swiss authorities to their counterparts.
The Section coordinates sectoral dialogues and exchanges on political topics of shared interest, in line with the priorities set out in Switzerland's foreign policy strategy. Notably, Switzerland and China have been conducting a human rights dialogue since 1991.
The Section cultivates contacts with ministries and other relevant stakeholders in China, the DPRK and Mongolia, including public institutions, civil society and other embassies, in order to promote Switzerland's interests and foster bilateral cooperation. It also prepares and accompanies official visits by representatives of the Swiss authorities, as well as other relevant political actors.
