Office of the Defence Attaché
The Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sports (DDPS) is represented with 20 Defence Attaché Offices all over the world, amongst them the Office of the Defence Attaché at the Embassy of Switzerland in Beijing.
The Defence Attaché at the Embassy of Switzerland in Beijing is accredited to the People's Republic of China, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), Japan, and the Republic of Korea.
The Defence Attaché of Switzerland in Beijing is accredited with the Ministries of Defence of the respective countries and thus is in charge of all bilateral military issues.
The Defence Attaché is responsible for safeguarding Swiss interests in matters of security and military policy in the countries of accreditation and monitors security and military developments in the countries of accreditation, in accordance with international law and applicable legislation, and reports on these primarily to the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS).
The Defence Attaché informs the relevant authorities in the countries of accreditation about matters relating to Swiss security policy and the armed forces and supports bilateral military cooperation between Switzerland and the respective countries.
The Defence Attaché advises the Heads of Mission on security policy issues and in crisis situations and organises and accompanies high-level visits from Switzerland (Head of Department, Chief of the Armed Forces, etc.) to the countries of accreditation, as well as high-level visits from those countries to Switzerland.
