Consular Section
Tasks and objectives
The Consular Section acts as a link between the Swiss residing in the consular district (Shanghai and the provinces of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui) and their home country: it registers newly-arrived Swiss citizens, issues passports and other documents of identification and provides assistance to Swiss tourists in need. Furthermore, the Section issues visas to residents of the consular district travelling to Switzerland.
We deal with the following areas in particular

- Issuing passports and ID cards
- Consular protection: assistance with lost passports, repatriations, support and assistance in the event of arrest, accident or other emergency
- Civil status matters (births, marriages, divorces, deaths, adoptions)
- Assisting Swiss tourists in need
- Confirmation and legalisation matters
- Swiss citizenship / naturalization
- Social welfare for Swiss living abroad
- Visa services
