Consulate General of Switzerland in Hong Kong

As the official representation of Switzerland on the ground, the Consulate General carries out a variety of tasks within its designated regional consular district. It supports Swiss citizens, maintains contact with local authorities and institutions, and promotes bilateral relations in the areas of consular affairs, economy, culture and science.

Responsibilities

The Consulate General of Switzerland in Hong Kong provides consular services and visa support for people resident in Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Region.

This Consulate General is Switzerland’s official representation in the Special Administrative Regions of Hong Kong and Macau. Its activities are based on the five foreign-policy objectives defined in the Swiss Federal Constitution. The Consulate General namely undertakes endeavours in order to:

• safeguard the interest of the Swiss economy
• relieve need and poverty
• create respect for human rights and promote democracy
• promote a peaceful coexistence among people
• preserve the natural environment

The Consulate General of Switzerland acts as general mediator between this consular district and Switzerland and spreads information about Switzerland to the Chinese public and authorities. It is furthermore an important link between Swiss nationals in Hong Kong or Macau and the authorities at home in Switzerland. Functions that are carried out in Switzerland by local authorities (issuing passports, determining voting rights, registration of its citizens and more) are in this Consulate’s responsibility – as is the protection of the rights and interests of Swiss nationals in the event of an accident, arrest or other emergency situation.

The Consulate General of Switzerland in Hong Kong currently employs a staff of 10 persons. It is headed by Mr. Daniel Freihofer.

• Entry to Switzerland

  As of 04.12.2021, 0:00h CET, Switzerland has lifted entry restrictions and quarantine regulations for Hong Kong residents. Regular visa conditions for Hong Kong and Macao residents apply.

  Please make an appointment with VFS Global to submit your visa C or national visa D application at our representation. We thank you in advance for your cooperation and patience.

  Switzerland has decided to end the special COVID-19 related situation on 30 March 2022. You can therefore enter Switzerland without any further pandemic-related measures. Masks and COVID certificates are no longer required to enter shops, restaurants, cultural venues and other public settings and events.

• Entry to Hong Kong for travellers coming from Switzerland

  Inbound persons arriving from Taiwan or places outside China:

  • All pre-departure and post-arrival quarantine and testing requirements have been removed
  • No further restrictions upon arrival
